Notes to editors

One Welfare is a concept that describes the interconnection between animal welfare, human wellbeing and their physical and social environment. You can see the video here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZHlknHGGL0&t=1s )

The One Welfare Framework encompasses five distinct sections that aim to bring together professionals of different disciplines for the benefit of animal welfare, human wellbeing, the environment, and overall, our society and the world we live in. You can read more on the OW Framework here (https://www.onewelfareworld.org/book.html_ )

Why a One Welfare World Conference? The conference intends to bring together collective expertise across the world to discuss recent research developments as well as novel proposals within the area of One Welfare discussing the interconnections between animal welfare, human wellbeing and environmental aspects. This helps connect the global research community with those at the policy and delivery end and supports efforts to address global challenges with a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach without borders.

What are the Conference Themes? The Conference has four themes intended to focus on how a One Welfare approach fits in our daily lives. Theme 1: One Welfare and Fashion, discussion what we (and our pets! )wear, eat and have; Theme 2: One Welfare and History, exploring how animal welfare science, the animal-human bond and One Welfare science have developed in different areas and environments through history; Theme 3: Animal Health and the Environment, working united under the One Welfare umbrella and learning about global developments in this area such as the UN resolution on Animal welfare–environment–sustainable development nexus; Theme 4: One Welfare and Photography, with a focus on visual images, how they are taken (i.e. respecting the welfare of people/animals/environment) as well as the purpose of the images (i.e. raise awareness, document, etc.); You can see the conference themes and detail on the abstract submission here: https://www.onewelfareworld.org/conference.html https://www.onewelfareworld.org/abstracts.html
